To Cut or Not to Cut...

A certain little lady got her very first haircut tonight.  Actually, I'm not really sure if it can be classified as her first haircut... it was just a bang trim.  I basically distracted her by letting her bang on the computer keyboard while I hacked away just praying not to stab her in the eye.  It was a hot mess for a while but it actually turned out pretty darn cute.  She's working a very stylish side swept bang like all the big celebs :)

I had a major panic moment midway through vacuuming the hair up off my desk.... I FORGOT TO SAVE SOME!  Good new friends, I found a little "clump" that was stuck under the keyboard and it's now safe and sound in her baby book.  Phew!

She also got her very first bake set today :)  That rolling pin!  She did a lot of chasing the dogs around to get back her cookies and cupcakes.  Someday I'll just lounge around on the couch while she slaves away in the kitchen cooking dinner and baking dessert.  Someday.

A Break in the Rain

Anyone who knows anything about living in the Pacific Northwest knows all about RAIN.  We actually had a really nice end of summer and beginning of fall with warm and dry weather, however, that's gone now :)  We're back to rain, rain and more rain and it will probably be like this until next July.  Fun!  Loading and unloading a toddler from the car in the rain is not a good time.  She's not a fan of the wet stuff either.  Anyways, today was a beautiful day so we decided to get our booties outside to take advantage of it!

How cute are her boots?  I'm pretty obsessed with all of the Old Navy boots right now!  So adorable and playful- and perfect for a toddler who is growing at lightning speed!  Her Daddio would not be a fan of her growing out of Uggs in two months.  Don't say I never do anything for ya hoosband!  ;)

I'm not really into Halloween... I know, I know, I need to get into it for the little one.  I'm working on it!  I'd rather just decorate for fall and let that carry over to Thanksgiving :)  I'm loving white pumpkins this year.

Hopefully we can make this Halloween candy last a week.  We're suckers for sweet stuff around this house!

Now I just need to finish up the decorating and decide what Miss P is going to be for Halloween.  I can't seem to settle on anything!  What's a Momma gotta do to find a cute cow costume?!?

Chalkboard Love

Shout out to the husband for making me my new chalkboards.  He actually made them for my cousin's wedding I styled last weekend and now they have new homes in our house.  The babe's bathroom has been a work in progress... I threw it together while I was pregnant and in MAJOR nesting mode just so it would be usable.  It didn't even have a shower curtain in it before P's arrival.  I'm thinking it's the perfect project to work on this fall.  Ya hear that Mister?  I know you are sooo excited!

diy: Chevron Onesie

I stumbled upon this tutorial on Pinterest and thought it would be a perfect baby shower gift for a friend expecting a baby boy.  There are so many super cute things you can make for baby girls, and this was the first diy that I thought was perfect for a boy.  I fell in love with the chevron stripes and also made a mustache version.  The mustache version was ready to go for the shower... BUT this chevron was not.  :)  The baby boy is now a month old and I'm finally delivering it tomorrow.  This is how most of my projects go :)  Luckily for me, he was an early babe and is still pretty tiny so it should still fit.

The hardest part is getting the onesie positioned in the sewing machine since it's so tiny.  Other than that- super easy.

diy: Anthropolgie Inspired Lamp

When I was about 6 months pregnant I spotted a lampshade online at Anthropologie and had to have it.  Being the instant gratification person that I am, I didn't order it and went to the local Anthro to pick it up.  Once I saw it in person I realized it would be a really easy diy!  It was my first project for the babe's room and I love how it turned out.  All the fabric "puffs" make it put off a nice soft light.

I started with a basic lamp shade and base from Target.  I painted the base a vintage aqua color that coordinated with the rest of the decor in her room.

Now for the star of the show, the lamp shade.  Start with strips of fabric (I used a heavy linen) about 4 inches wide.

Cut those strips into 4" squares.  I stopped counting at 200 squares... let's just say you're gonna need a lot of them.  Obviously the amount will vary depending on the size of shade you use.

Cut the squares into circles.  Lots of cutting going on in this project.

Take your glue gun and put a ring shape of glue about half way in the circle.  Kinda like a bulls-eye.  This part definitely doesn't have to be perfect and you can adjust how you do the glue to get either a tight puff or more loose.

Take the fabric circle and gather it at the middle to create the little puff.  I think I may have ruined my fingerprints forever after doing all of these!

After the glue has cooled, cut the base of the puff off so you're working with a flat surface to glue to the lampshade.

Add a little hot glue to the base of the puff and stick it to the lampshade.  Easy as that!  Not gonna lie, it's a little time consuming but so easy and worth it!

You could do so many variations of this.  I've been kicking around the idea of painting the edges with gold... we'll see if that ever happens :)  You could dye the linen different shades of one color and glue them on in an Ombre like pattern.  Lots of options!

Every Birthday Needs Cake

If you ask me, the best part of any party or wedding is the dessert bar.   The husband, Guncle Bling and I stayed up WAY too late the night before her party putting all of the finishing touches on her cupcakes, smash cake, push pops, rice crispies and chocolate dipped oreos.  Nothing like a little candy and gossip to get you through a marathon baking session.

The kiddos really loved the cake push pops.  They are pretty cute and something kinda different than cake pops which seem to be everywhere now.  I just made mini cupcakes and slipped them in  the push pop holder- perfect fit!

My Dad couldn't resist feeding her a cupcake before her party started.  He is definitely a trouble maker when it comes to her.

My Baby Turned ONE

I did great all weekend until tonight at bath time.  Finally it all hit me and the tears started welling up.  Everyone I've talked to over the past year has told me to enjoy each moment because the time will fly by.  Man does it.  We have been so lucky to have a happy and healthy little girl.  She has given us the best year of our life- by far.  I still miss being in the hospital the weekend she was born and soaking in the time with family and our closest friends.  Since that weekend we have celebrated so many "firsts" with her.  It's amazing what you'll keep track of, her first ride in a shopping cart, her first Starbucks (don't worry, just a vanilla bean frapp), the first time she pooped in the tub... the list goes on and on.  Anyways, I'm obviously sentimental right now and rambling on and on but the moral of the story is I love my baby girl more than I could ever attempt to put into words.  She is BY FAR my best accomplishment.  Happy 1st Birthday Presley Ryan!! WE LOVE YOU!

One last snap from our walk back home.  Imagine what the people who passed us on the path thought... I had P and a giant balloon (plus an awesome outfit) and the Husband was carrying her highchair and a rocking horse.  Just another day in his awesome life.

We started a birthday tradition this morning by fixin' up some cake batter pancakes with LOTS of sprinkles.  They were really yummy- tasted just like birthday cake.  I used a recipe I found on Pinterest.

I think she liked them!
